The diamond Sutra is one of the most important sutures in Buddhism. It’s really long. It like goes on and on and on.
Basically it’s a story of all the disciples coming up to Buddha and saying, “Oh! You’re so wonderful. Say something wise.” and then Buddha answers back saying something like, ” you know kind of like y”Yeah. I’m really wonderful, and here’s something wise.”
One of the things he says is, “Thoughts arise from silence.”
I agree. It’s pretty wise!
Think about that a sec… what are your thoughts? If you look deeply you’ll see that the thoughts are happening in silence. Silence is what is truly in you. Silence is always there and thoughts just kind of bubble up. They arise, go away, arise, go away, arise, go away.
What we call the ego is when you’re stuck and fixated on the thoughts and don’t hear the silence. Humanity is basically all these people walking around in a trance, fixated on the thoughts that are arising, instead of knowing where the silence resides.
So let’s explore a song. We call this the Sakyamuni Buddha because that’s where the first Buddha was from. He was from Sakyamuni. I’ve simplified the mantra so it runs easily on the western tongue.
Om Sakyamuni, Mani Mani. Om Sakyamuni Hare Hare. Om Sakyamuni, Mani Mani. Hari Om Tat Sat Satanam.
Haru Om Tat Sat Satanam can translate into “Thoughts arise from silence.”
