Who am I?

Who am I? That’s the big question.

If you’re a person who’s working on answering that question, you have a more immediate problem: how shall I live? Because it’s really, really possible, common in fact, to get totally confused about how to live your life as you’re searching for who am I.

It’s just so easy to get mixed up. So, you’ve got to have a few solid things to hold on to.

One of the best ones is just to understand that finding out who you are reveals a vast unity, a relationship between things that are so interconnected that there are no actual lines between anything.

So, the solid base of your life can be noticing unity, working towards being unified in as many ways as you possibly can. Notice how the trees and the air work. Read books about science that show how things are connected.

When you’re talking with people, talk with people about that. It’s really amazing how most people are capable of seeing it. If you can open up a conversation about it, it can be very, very interesting.

So. How are things connected? That will at least give us a solid ground to work from as we’re trying to sort out who am I.

In non-duality, actually, it’s the opposite way around because you’re not trying to find ‘who am I?’, you’re trying to find ‘what am I not.’

And the answer to that is: you’re not any kind of division at all.

Meanwhile, work on unity with things. How are your relationships with people? How is your relationship to the environment? Constantly think about the effect that you have on the things around you. That’s your interconnection with the whole world.

Consciously seeing unity keeps you grounded and is the easiest way to dissolve misconceptions at the same time.
