6 Ways to Non Dual: Nothing

Now we are going to look at six ways, techniques if you like, to discover non-dual.

The first one we’re going to look at is ‘nothing’. This is actually the most efficient way to disengage yourself from the illusion of your mind. In reality, nothing is happening inside you. I mean… lots of things are happening: your heart’s beating, your thoughts are going, breath is coming in and out; lots of things are happening inside you. But this thing that you see as your mind, which is the sense of your separate self, doesn’t exist. It’s not there.

So, if you take a look inside, with no preconception, just very, very relaxed, you’ll see that there’s nothing, nothing there.

Nothing is so fascinating.

Just think, if there’s nothing there, then the only thing that exists is the one who is seeing… that’s you. It’s just that simple.

So, let’s play around with your mind a little bit and see if we can fool you into going there.

First of all, just close your eyes. What do you experience? Most people will experience what they perceive to be a lot of noise.

Do it again. Now, close your eyes and listen. Is there actually noise in there? No… there isn’t. Do it again, close your eyes. There’s no actual noise in there. Your ears are picking up perceptions, but your so-called mind is making no noise. If you plug your ears you will pick up the sound of your heartbeat and things like that. But as far as a speaking noise, voices, there’s nothing in there.

If you stay in silence long enough, your mind may start running and capture your attention. It may appear as if thoughts are happening, but there is no actual sound. This so-called mind is just like a heartbeat, like a river flowing by. It’s nothing.

Okay, so let’s do a little trick now. As humans we believe we can see things, both in the outside world and inside our minds because we’re very visual people. And in truth, all vision goes into your eye and then is interpreted by your brain. It feels like you’re seeing things in there but you’re not really. your mind interprets everything. That’s its job.

So, let’s fool ourselves with a game. Think about a drum. In my video you can see a drum on the wall. I want you to close your eyes and see if you can find an actual drum inside of you.

You can’t. There might be a thought of a drum but there’s not an actual drum in there. This game is to help split it up so you can see the difference between a thought and a real thing.

This is the whole point of non-duality. Learning that a thought is not a real thing. It’s just a thought.

Okay, let’s do it again. Take a breath, relax, look inside, try to find an actual drum. There’s nothing there.

Now, step back into that nothingness. You are the one looking at nothing. That’s you.

It’s just that simple. There’s actually nothing besides yourself in you. A perception is just a perception. There’s actually nothing there, just you looking. There’s only one you. Nondual.
