Nonduality is not an experience. Experiences can come and go; you can remembrer them, forget about them, have them, or anticipate them in the future.
For instance, something happened to you in the past, or you anticipate an experience like graduating from college on a specific day in the future. Those are experiences.
But nonduality is not an experience; it can more be described as a state because it’s the firm ground upon which you’re already standing. Right here, right now.
Feel the ground, feel wherever you are. Being where you are is not an experience; it’s where you are. This is why we always say, “Enlightenment doesn’t happen in the future.” It doesn’t happen in the past either. It doesn’t happen in a crazy mystical moment of now. It happens here, where we are. Not as an experience, but as an opening to who you are.
Experiences come and go. The awakened state is a way of being. You could call it a worldview because when you know who is viewing the world (that’s you), then you can see through your interpretation mechanism. You are then interacting with the world through your brain, your eyes, and your ears.
You can then see clearly through your eyes, hear clearly through your ears, and think clearly with your brain. It doesn’t come and go; it’s not an experience. It’s life and being.
