Illusion happens when you don’t see a thought as a thought, or an emotion as an emotion. Instead you get sucked into a vortex of importance. You give them a name and a power: My thought. My emotions.
The emotion isn’t you. The thought isn’t you. Any more than your hair isn’t isn’t you. If you cut off your hair, it’s just gone. It’s the same with emotions. Emotions just happen. It’s like breath. Breath out and there it goes. It’s gone. It’s not me.
We can be the master of this. With thoughts. With emotions. Breath in and hold it and you’ll see how easily you can control your breath.
It’s easy, but it’s not forever, forever, forever, control. That’s not necessary. Can you imagine trying to control every single breath that happens in your whole day? It’s both impossible and not necessary. Same thing with thoughts and emotions. You don’t want to have to control every single one of those. Those things run very well on their own. Why bother controlling something that works beautifully and naturally.
Occasionally, just like with breath, it’s nice to you know calm your mind down. It’s nice to know you can do something that that enhances it. Read a book. That makes you smarter. Sing a song that makes you happier.
We need never be stuck in thinking as an automation. Stuck in thinking.
It’s a beautiful river of consciousness and observation. No need to be stuck in the river.
