In the end, Sufism is a point of view that is going to either reveal life to you or enhance your illusions about life. The illusions can feel very beautiful, and it is easy to use the concentration practices of Sufism to make your illusions more practical, more popular— all sorts of beautiful things, actually. …

Use All of Your Brain
They say that we don’t use all of our brain, and it kind of feels like that might be true. I don’t know how you test it and find out but we can do a little few little things with ourselves to get an idea about it. Is there a more vast capability in our …
We Are Capable of More
We are capable of so much more than we usually do as human beings. We’re not taught to use our full brain capacity. Just imagine if we had all been taught to use both our critical side of our brain and our, what I’m going to call, Mystical side together, so that when we think about problems, we’re always considering the big, big picture. And also, what if all of our training had included really good relationships? Because it’s how human beings relate to other things that truly bring us the answers on how we should be living. I think we could be inhabiting a totally different world, and we have the potential to transition from where we are now to that.
How to be Inclusive
How to be inclusive? The answer is you can’t. This is such a good example of why nonduality is such a brilliant teaching, because nonduality goes at a spiritual question from the negative rather than the positive. If you try to go possitive you immediately become lost in infinite details. How to be inclusive? “I …
The Mystical is Always There
The mystical is always there. It’s inside of you, it’s outside of you as well. Have you ever noticed that, no matter how hard you try, your critical brain just keeps talking and talking and going and going and going? Because it’s alive, it’s part of your aliveness. Same thing with the mystical. It is always there, it’s just not very loud. It’s not even as loud as a soft breeze blowing. It’s total softness and silence that’s inside you all the time. This is why Mystics and teachers are always saying, you don’t have to search for it, just sit silent and let this part of you grow.
Who Are You?
So, who are you? How do you figure that out? How do you realize your nature, when your whole life you’ve been taught to project yourself outside of yourself? Fortunately, as human beings, we’re really, really smart, so we can work through it. First step is to understand what a projection is. One of the …
Programmed to live in pretense
We are programmed to live in pretense. I’d like to pass on a sentiment, not an exact quote, but an idea from John Trudell from his book ‘Lines from a Mind.’ He says that everyone’s minds are molded to be broken enough to live in the society that we have. He’s very interesting because all …
Not confused by life
Non-duality is really just explaining what life is through the negative. Saying it’s not this, it’s not that. It’s not this, it’s not that. It is a heyday for spiritual teachers who don’t really understand it. They can go crazy with all the concepts it seems to be talking about. But it’s also a total heyday for the spiritual teachers that do understand it because it’s so much easier to talk about what doesn’t exist, and try to get people to come back to reality, than it is to try to explain unity through platitudes like, “you’re the universe, you’re this, you’re that.” So there you go, the secret is out.
Imagine not being confused by life itself. It has a bonus because this is the place where wisdom actually grows.
