So here’s an interesting thing to think about: the difference between being and becoming.
So much of our spiritual search these days seems to be about becoming. Becoming something. Becoming enlightened, or getting something. Getting prosperity, getting happiness or bliss.
Humanity has been around for a really long time. For ninety thousand years at least we’ve been fully cooked human beings. For the vast majority of that time any kind of spirituality would have just been about being. I don’t mean trying to be in the present. I mean about being a decent human being right here, right now.
Spirituality was about discovering what it takes to be in balance. Balance is a thing that constantly has to be worked at. You can’t you can’t just like “boom!” fix yourself.
Balance is like riding a bicycle. You have to constantly balance: back and forth, and back and forth. Finding that middle middle spot as you go down the road.
Life is dynamic. It’s about balance. So being is something that you constantly have to do. It’s things like, how do you manage your thoughts? How do you live within your society?
Being is just being. Becoming is about something other than what you already are.
What would it be like to turn your spirituality, mostly, into being?
