Captured by consumerism. That’s literally our minds, our beings, these days. But we don’t want to be that. Do we?
How do we get out of it when it’s so deep?
One good way is to play around with yourself. Play around with ideas and you’ll find that you can shake yourself up. Take an idea and turn it around.
One thing I’ve been playing around with is the idea that the customer is always right. Is that really true or is it a manipulation by business owners to get you to buy more and more stuff? Today we believe that if a business has good customer service then they are “good.” It’s like… yeah okay they gave me what I want and made me feel happy, so they are “good.”
Switch it around. What if it was the other way around? I’m not saying that it is. I’m saying play around with it and see. What if the customer was always wrong?
In a way that makes a certain kind of sense. You’re a business owner, or you’re a service provider, or you you want to sell something to somebody. They’re your customer. They don’t have the thing you have, or they don’t know the thing you know. They aren’t right, they are in need.
Play around with that idea. See how it shakes things up. See if it makes you uncomfortable and nervous. Maybe the new perception will inspire you. Maybe you’ll come up with some good ideas.
Are you more free or less free?
Shrug. It’s the exploration that matters.
Maybe you’ll decide it’s a bad idea. I don’t know.
