The death of the ego sounds pretty dramatic, doesn’t it? It’s not actually a real, accurate description of waking up because what actually dies is just your obsession with the ego – the connection to it, the infatuation with it, the weakness of not being in control of it, of letting this really nasty part of yourself be the thing that informs who you are and what you do.
So, when this attachment dies, the ego is very, very happy to go back to its place where it belongs. It’s just simply a useful little tool, a useful little bit of being human, just like your mind.
It does kind of feel like a death because you’re never the same again, but the part that dies is just simply the illusion.
