Nonduality Explained: Thinking is Good

Nonduality explained: thinking is good.

I am trying to explain nonduality even though nonduality cannot be explained; it can only be experienced. But thinking is good. It has to be… thinking exists, right? God don’t create no junk.

Because of the fact that we’re able to do it, and because of the fact that we constantly do it, it must be a useful thing.

But here’s the trick: thinking is good, but it’s not completely accurate. It’s very, very limited. We can learn how to use our thinking abilities to enhance our lives, to enhance the world, to learn how things work together, and that’s a good thing. We have this vast capacity for both understanding without thought and working through things with thought. So thinking’s good.

The thing that’s crazy is that we are living in this time and place where we have been taught that thinking is everything. We’ve been taught to define everything. We’ve been taught to project outwards onto everything and not see and experience our actual awake self. We’ve been taught to live in this divided, broken way.

We can do it the other way around. We can be taught to live in a connected, interconnected, awake way. So if you’re drawn to nonduality at all, I hope it’s because you’re trying to step out of the limitations that you’ve been taught and step into a place of freedom.

Thought’s good, but it’s not everything. And here’s what’s really funny: people love to come in and comment on my videos. I like that; sometimes I give snarky little comments back because that’s kind of the nature of nonduality, right? But here’s the challenge: there is no way you can comment on my videos without using language. Well, maybe an emoji—emojis kind of mean something too—but you can’t do it.

Same thing with me: I can’t create a video without talking. I mean, I could, but that’s probably not very useful to anyone. So talking is good, thinking is good, especially when we use that process to let ourselves know that there’s something beyond it.

There’s the vastness of your being that understands language, which is very different from the language itself. Who is understanding your thoughts? Who are you?
