Save Me From the Pillar

So Sheik Farid was out teaching in the Square one afternoon. A man came along to learn from him who was full of questions. He was obviously very learned in Nonduality, and Zen, and Sufism. So he asked, “How do I get rid of my concepts? How do I get rid of my mind? How do I free myself from all these things?”

Farid looked at him for a minute and then jumped up and ran over to a pillar. He grabbed onto the pillar, and he started shrieking and yelling. “Save me from the pillar! Save me from the pillar!”

The man, the seeker, was very shocked. It was a mess. People were running over, and it was a big huge scene. So he runs up to the Sheik and he says, “Farid! All you have to do is let go of the pillar. It’s not holding onto you. It’s not doing anything to you. Just let go of the pillar!”

Farid let go and said, “Exactly.”
