It’s interesting to look at this idea with an open mind because our beliefs fix our minds into a static state—particularly spiritual beliefs. For instance, if you believe that enlightenment is very difficult to attain, you’re stuck. If you believe that enlightenment is a special event or realization that only the most “beautiful” people can achieve, you’ll remain fixed in that mindset, unable to explore openly—even your own experiences.
We often negate our own experiences when they don’t align with our beliefs. This is critical in today’s world, where we can’t afford to be rigid. Take, for example, a simple belief like “nothing can be done about global warming.” If you hold that belief, you become part of the problem. Being sucked into that hopelessness makes it impossible to move forward and work together. Similarly, if you believe that human nature is inherently bad, your spiritual journey will always be negative. Why? Because you’ve already divided yourself from human nature.
Look within—don’t you see? Most people think, I’m good, and they’re all bad. Every divided person believes the same thing: I’m the good one, and those people are causing the problems. Even if you tell yourself, I’m just a regular person, and it’s the government causing the problem, you’ve split yourself away from the system. That belief puts you in a fixed state, so when opportunities arise to take action, you’re frozen. You can’t join in or participate.
Start realizing that belief itself is a toxic state that locks you into immobility. When you let go of these rigid beliefs, your life will transform.
