What if we were told by our spiritual teachers to participate instead of to accept everything as it is?
Now, again… you’ll notice I’m always going back-and-forth with everything. Of course, it’s good to accept what is. But is this a reality? Is this your lived experience? Or is it just a belief you hold?
Beliefs block our vision. The more you hold onto beliefs the less you are going to be able to actually see. The less you’re going to be able to participate.
You’ll notice that the people who don’t want to get involved in politics are also the people who think that everything about the way we govern our selves is impossible. They aren’t doing it good enough so I won’t participate. There’s so many excuses for that.
How about the other way around. What if we thought, “It’s not good enough so it needs me. Life needs me.”
We would never think about our children this way. This is the one of the reasons why I think enlightened women are vital for the future of the planet. Because if we started really using female fierceness, the fierceness that we have about our children, we would change the world. There is nothing more damaging that you can do to a child than not participate in their lives. Mothers have an instinctive fierceness to be there.
It’s almost impossible to convince a mother that her children don’t need her. She knows the damage caused by abandoning a child.
Don’t abandon the earth! Don’t abandon our country, or our communities.
Right now if you watch movies you’ll find that the plots of most of them about being abandoned by a parent. We have an epidemic of parents that don’t participate fully in their children’s lives. It’s destroying and damaging so many people. This is what is so damaging about drug abuse. It takes you away from your children.
But this is exactly the same thing we are doing when we refuse to participate in life. You want to be spiritual so you think, “I need to just be. I’m lovingly detached.”
If you’ve been watching my videos you’ll know my pet peeve is this idea that we all need to get away from suffering. Everything is just fine as it is. These are just excuses to not participate. We opt out, and so our lives get crazier and crazier.
What if instead we were told to participate in life? What if we were told that life is a good thing? That we need you. That you need to be there. How would that change the way you live? How would that change the way we all live? How would that change the way that you and I could get along together, if we were both fully participating. How would that change our communities?
So what if we were told to participate fully. What if our spiritual teachers said, “You’re strong. You’re capable. You are able to do whatever you really set your mind to.”
What if we were told that who you are is participation itself. Come on in. Be with the rest of us. We need you.
