The Rich Get Richer

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I watched this strange movie last night about an Anarchist, a very passionate Anarchist. His big deal was talking about how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And of course, we have to have a rebellion. Which is of course, kind of true.

Except there’s this fundamental problem.

Yes, definitely. The rich are getting richer. But the poor aren’t getting any poorer. They already have nothing. How do you go from having nothing, no things, to having more nothing? Or even less nothing? So the actual problem here is that the rich are getting richer and more and more people are getting poor. It’s that poverty is becoming a bigger and bigger problem for society.

This is just a funny little quip but it goes to show what I’ve talked about in the last several videos. There are not simple answers. Simple answers aren’t going to get us anywhere. So whenever you hear something that sounds really really simple, stop a second and go… Wait? Wait a minute.

Then you can discern: It is true that the rich get richer. But the do the poor really get poorer?

The laze mind wants simplicity, something to grab onto. Ego is looking for whatever’s really simple and then… yeah, let’s have a rebellion.

It’s way more complicated to realize that the richer are getting richer and there’s fewer and fewer of them. It’s really pointed at the top of the pyramid. The middle class is dwindling, and the amount of richness that the rich people have, the 1% have, is insanely huge. And at the same time more and more people are falling into poverty.

But that’s complicated. It’s way more complicated to talk about that then to simply say the poor getting poorer. When in truth, they’re just poor. And there’s way more of them.

Now all of a sudden we have this complicated thing to talk about. We can’t just go running around shouting slogans.

But if you look at it in a different way, now, all the sudden we have something really interesting to talk about. And we can start coming up with things to do about it. I mean rebelling makes sense if there’s only just one thing to do, but if it’s a complicated problem then we need complicated answers. Like maybe we need to actually work with each other on the problem..
